Maidanbuild Homes

Extend | Renovate | Build

This is one of our own developments. In 2020 we took on a plot in Eastleigh with a tired old bungalow on it, and over the next eight months we replaced it with a pair of brand-new semi-detached family homes. Each has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate laundry room. We built them, finished them and sold them both. Here is the story, told through the photos we took on site.

1. Hoarding up, site cleared

The first job on any site is making it safe and secure. Hoarding went up along the road, then the old bungalow was taken down and the plot was cleared, ready for the diggers.

2. Foundations

With the site clear, the footings for both houses were dug and concreted. It is the part of the build nobody sees once it is finished, but it is where the quality starts.

3. Ground floor and walls

Next came the ground floor, then the walls. The inner walls are built in block and the outside in facing brick, rising together course by course, with the door and window openings formed as we go.

4. First floor and roof

With the scaffolding up, the first floor went on and the upstairs walls were built to full height. Then the roof trusses were lifted into place and fixed, and once the roof was on, the houses were weathertight and work could carry on inside.

5. Finishing touches

With the windows in and the inside finished, we moved outside: new fencing, block paving and planted front gardens with curved brick walls, so the homes were ready to live in from the day they were sold.
